Thursday, 1st October 2026
Two new things from us this week (you are very welcome): a local directory of places worth knowing across the District, and a local jobs board. More on both below.
Elsewhere, it's Steyning Farmers' Market on Saturday, a classic vehicle day at Amberley Museum on Sunday, and the Live At The Drill house band tonight. On the council side, plans for 22 social rented homes on old garage sites went to Cabinet, and the Local Plan hearings restart on 13 October.
Weather-wise, it's settled and mostly dry, with highs of around 20°C.
Enjoy the week. 🌿

🗺️ Local Plan Hearings Restart on 13 October. Public hearings into the Horsham District Local Plan, which sets out where new homes and development will go, resume on Tuesday 13 October at 10am. ⭐Weekly spotlight
Every week I recommend a local favourite and somewhere to eat, and then they disappear into old emails. Now they have a home: the HD Loop Directory, with independent shops, cafés, pubs, days out and trusted local services from Henfield and Steyning to Southwater and Horsham town centre.
Search by name, filter by village, or tap Near me. I check every listing, and Local Favourites are never paid for.
Job hunting? There's also a new local jobs board, with vacancies from local employers and more jobs nearby.

🧠 Horsham Trivia
In 1614, a pamphlet reported a "strange and monstrous" creature living in St Leonard's Forest, just outside Horsham. What was it said to be?
Hit reply with your guess. We'll print the answer, and whoever got it, in next week's edition.
Last week's answer: "hors" (horse) and "ham" (a homestead, or a riverside meadow), so Horsham most likely means the place where horses were kept.
🍽️ Where to eat
The Tipsy Fox, Southwater
A historic village pub on Worthing Road, once the Cock Inn, serving home-cooked food, real ales and a long list of gins. Children and dogs are welcome, which makes it an easy stop after a walk round Southwater Country Park.
