Quick one before we get into it: we're now 325 of you getting this in your inbox every week, up from 299 just last week. Thank you, genuinely. If there's someone in Horsham District who'd enjoy it, forwarding this on would mean a lot. 🎉
Onto the week itself: the Horsham September Beer Festival takes over the Brewery & Tap Room from Friday, Knepp's Friday BBQ nights are still going strong, and Steyning's Gorilla Kitchen pizza van rolls up for St Barnabas House Hospice on Wednesday. On the council side, revised plans for the Bishopric went before the scrutiny committee this week, the stream's going but the waterfall's staying, and seven garage sites could become new social rented homes if Cabinet gives the nod on Wednesday.
Weather-wise, it's a mild, mostly dry week that warms up nicely as we head into next week, properly good beer festival weather.
Enjoy the week. 🌿

🏡 Local favourite
Gwyn's Bakery
An independent, open-plan bakery on the Bishopric where you can watch the bread being made while you queue. Everything's from scratch with British ingredients where they can manage it, the coffee's from Horsham Coffee Roasters, and the cinnamon buns have built a genuine local following.

🧠 Horsham Trivia
Horsham gives its name to its own building material, first split into roofing tiles by a particular ancient civilisation, prized for its ripple-marked surface. Still visible on rooftops all along The Causeway today. Who first quarried and used it this way?
Hit reply with your guess. We'll print the answer, and whoever got it, in next week's edition.
Last week’s answer: Percy Bysshe Shelley, born at Field Place, Warnham, in 1792.
First reader to reply with the correct answer, Vanessa Jones 🏆
🍽️ Where to eat
Urban Fuse Kitchen & Bar, Middle Street
A small, family-run spot doing Greek and Mediterranean food in the middle of town, halloumi, souvlaki, moussaka, baklava, that sort of thing. Reviews consistently flag it as something a bit different for Horsham, with a warm, unfussy atmosphere.
[No personal visit on file — same as the bakery above, your own take would work better than this researched blurb.]
