Onto the week itself: the Horsham September Beer Festival takes over the Brewery & Tap Room from Friday, Knepp's Friday BBQ nights are still going strong, and Steyning's Gorilla Kitchen pizza van rolls up for St Barnabas House Hospice on Wednesday. On the council side, revised plans for the Bishopric went before the scrutiny committee this week, the stream's going but the waterfall's staying, and seven garage sites could become new social rented homes if Cabinet gives the nod on Wednesday.

Weather-wise, it's a mild, mostly dry week that warms up nicely as we head into next week, properly good beer festival weather.

An independent, open-plan bakery on the Bishopric where you can watch the bread being made while you queue. Everything's from scratch with British ingredients where they can manage it, the coffee's from Horsham Coffee Roasters, and the cinnamon buns have built a genuine local following.

A small, family-run spot doing Greek and Mediterranean food in the middle of town, halloumi, souvlaki, moussaka, baklava, that sort of thing. Reviews consistently flag it as something a bit different for Horsham, with a warm, unfussy atmosphere.
